Genital Warts
Genital warts are generally caused by catching HPV (human papilloma virus) via sexual intercourse at some point since you were sexually active.
The virus can stay dormant for many years and then due to stress, bad luck or local trauma such as shaving the virus can present as warty lesions on the penis, vagina, groin, pubic and anal areas.
It can be extremely embarrassing especially as its impossible to say whether it was a recent or previous partner who had passed it on so trying to identify that contact is somewhat futile.
Same day treatments
Wart treatments are available at NHS clinics however for some patients who have resistant warts that are more severe or want quick treatments then visiting a skin clinic like Cosmedics is the best option.

Genital Wart Removal FAQ: Questions & Answers
Genital warts are caused by human papilloma virus (HPV). Most people don’t even know when they contracted the virus that causes genital warts (HPV), as the warts can take years to show on the penis or vaginal areas. It is important to remember that it was most likely caught from a earlier partner without realising it.
Similarly, you cannot rely on the visual presence of genital warts to determine if someone is infected with HPV. In some cases, genital warts never appear or can appear years after contracting the virus.
In women, genital warts appear inside and outside of the vagina (vagina – labia majora and/or pubic area) and inner thighs.
In men, genital warts can appear on the penis (shaft and/or base), scrotum, testicles, anus, groin and thighs.
In both, they may also occur in or around the anal area (anus)
Sometimes anal warts can also be present but this is rarer. The most common areas for genital warts to appear are around the genitalia (penis/vagina).
We offer private treatment for genital warts and anal skin tags. However, we do not offer full sexual health screening services. NHS sexual health clinics are able to offer a discrete rapid full set of screening tests for STD’s (sexually transmitted diseases) or STI’s (sexually transmitted infections). You can speak to your doctor first if you prefer, or else book direct at most sexual health clinics. It’s best to research local facilities online or call your GP surgery for initial advice.
Your consultation and treatment will be with a GMC registered doctor. There is no pre-screening by a layperson and you will only need to discuss your warts with the person who would potentially be providing treatment.
Most of our clinics have both male and female doctors, so if you have a particular preference we will do our best to accommodate it.
We use numbing creams and/or local anaesthetic to make the procedure pain-free throughout. You may have some discomfort when the anaesthetic wears off, but this can be managed using normal painkillers (paracetamol).
“I was embarrassed and it took a while to call but I am so glad I did as the doctor removed all the warts in one go. It took a few days to heal after the laser treatment but just happy not to have them any longer.”
Mike B. London
“I tried a cream over the internet that burned the skin around the wart but did not remove it depsite using it for weeks. Wish I had just seen a professional in the first place and after trawling the internet found Cosmedics whose doctors all do freezing, laser and surgery for warts. Mine required a bit of everthing but all done in one visit and they have not come back thank god.”
Aiden M. Surrey
“Wish I had done it sooner as got so worked up about it. The treatment involved a laser or some machine that simply burnt the wart off there and then. You can see it vanish and just left a small scab that healed in few days.”
Kim B. Berkshire
